61 YEARS AGO and TODAY

August 6th 1945 Hiroshima, Japan ... the first atomic bomb was dropped ... in the very same day in Bergamo, Italy ... my dad was born ... and today is the 61st anniversary of one of the darkest pages of the human history ... and at the same time, for me ... a great day ... my dad birthday!cSometimes I find myself thinking what would have happen to me if my family was from Hiroshima, Japan ... rather than from Bergamo, Italy ... I guess I would not be here to type on my laptop keyboard now ... but I am here and I want to tell you something ... don't believe to your presidents, prime ministers, dictators, spiritual leaders, religious leaders ... any war can be avoided ... any ... without distinction ... for example ... speaking about the war where the western world is involved right now ... Was the WAR in AFGANISTAN necessary? NO! Was the WAR in IRAQ necessary? NO! Don't even let me speak about the ISRAEL-LEBANON WAR ... so you even remember why it did start? Because 2 soldiers were kidnapped! 2 soldiers, right!? Now ... how many people died so far!? Almost 1,000 ... 1,000! There is something wrong here ... and you know what ... at the end ISRAEL will have to accept a prisoner exchange with the Hezbollah in order to have back its soldiers ... and who do you think they will give to the Hezbollah!? Football players or belly dancers!?! No ... people they have previously kidnapped! You see!? HEZBOLLLAH wanted to go to war with ISRAEL and ISRAEL wanted to go to war with HEZBOLLAH and they did it .... but here relies the problem ... the Israeli and the Lebanese people didn't want to go to war ... but someone managed to let them believe that the war was the only solution ... and now they are dying on both sides ... the people who is taking the decisions for us (presidents, prime ministers, dictators, spiritual leaders, religious leaders) have their own agenda. Believe me ... if there is something you don't understand in what the your president, prime minister, dictator, spiritual leader, religious leader does ... there is a reason ... it is wrong ... like 61 years ago ... it was wrong to drop that bomb ... but not only that bomb ... any bomb! Did you see the two pictures in this post ... do you see any difference!?! I don't! I was told that one was taken in LEBANON 2 days ago, and the other in HIROSHIMA, JAPAN 61 years ago ... I believe it ... but again ... I don't see any difference! I almost forgot ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!!!

world's media is definitly not the right source of info to get an accurate picture of the true reality in the middle east.

Hey dude ... I am pretty sure you are right about the picture ... but I lived in ISRAEL for almost 3 years ... I know a little bit ... I have seen Israel, the WEST BANK ... I have seen something with my eyes ... I spoke with people on both sides ... I suggest you to go there as well ... you will spend more time speaking about PEACE rather than PICTURES ... the picture (I could have picked up satellite pictures of BEIRUT or HAIFA) I did put in the post were just functional to the message ... SAY NO TO WAR, ANY WAR! XA

My best (and only) Italian friend:

Do you really think the picture is the issue ?
the problem is a biased media, which makes intelligent people not realizing that Hezbollah is just a terror organization, sitting like a cancer in Lebanon south border and interrupting the peace of peoples life and the stability in that area every now and then.

Is it too difficult to understand ? Lebanon and Israel are the ONLY declared countries in the area, with NO territory argument and with a well defined border. Why not letting Lebanon be an independent country ? why assassinating Rafik al-Hariri, Lebanon former prime minister, just because he wanted Lebanon detached of Syria and to finally get an independence for his people ?
sure, a great deal for Iran and Syria, fighting Israel and keeping hands clean, but as some minister IN Lebanon said : "Syria gives the order, Iran provides the financing, Hezbollah commits and Lebanon pays the price"
I have met a Lebanese girl in Vietnam who said over and over again how much Lebanon wants to have peace with Israel but the people and the government are too scared of Hezbollah "gangsters" and Syrian agents.

I am not concerned of hardly finding any description of the Israeli side in the world's media but the twisted understanding of the middle eastern reality by the world will not help getting a true solution in that area.
Some known person in History once said: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it"..

Anyone could be biased and see things as he wishes or fed, but one thing I am certain of, knowing so well the mentality of the parties in the middle east (not 3 but for 30 years): If these guys will put down their weapons, better chances we could get to peace. But if Israel will do so, good chances there will be no Israel. but maybe... it is also a type of a solution isn't it ?
ah... one last thing: the known person quoted above is Joseph Goebbels (was Adolf Hitler's Propaganda Minister)

I mostly agree with your comments ... but I am not sure if it is true that there is no territory claim from Lebanon ... does Shaba Farms (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/742228.html) tells you something!? But again ... that was not the issue of the post ... my idea is ... EVERYBODY SHOULD SAY "NO MORE WAR" ... REFUSE ANYTHING RELATED TO WAR! BTW ... when are we meeting for some pasta and a good grappa together!? These discussions will be easier ... :D XA

I know very well Shaba Farms story, but are you kidding me dude ?! connect to your common sense and to your memory from Israel of the real territory issues, and please tell me that you do not see this "story" as the reason for not having peace...
As you know in the complicated
Middle East, things are usually not as they seem...
Israel will give 10 farms (Gaza strip is a joke comparing to this) for having peace with Lebanon !!! Surely that is not the real reason for Syria/Hezbollah being there.

Imagine the problematic situation of Syria (and Iran backstage) when Israel will establish peach with Lebanon... our "break even" country... Peace with Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon + great atmosphere for having peace and a Palestinian country, realization for Arab world that the "Israel head hake" is not such a big deal and they can gain (peace, business, tourism, etc) much more than trying to eliminate Israel.

Oh then (when this "wet dream" of mine will come true), Syria as a minority in the region will face a great problem to keep its way and will be forced to have peace from a weakness starting point and they know that.

True, I am frustrated for many things on that but happy to keep a mature and open minded communication on that.
Better than your suggestion, I pray we both meet (still during our time) in Beirut for a good Lebanese food and Shisha.

Andrea, everyone is entitled to his opinion, but if you keep spouting this bullshit that all wars are completely avoidable, I'm going to have to start boycotting this website..... :-)

BTW, what day are we meeting for dinner this week?

I don't under stand one thing, who made who,,,, is it Iran or Syria or Israel, is it US who made Al Qaeda to defeat USSR, and now creating some thing new in Iraq. Why God made Jerusalem a holy place for all of us Muslims, Jews and Christians and so we can fight till the end of time,,,,,I am not supporting any body but do read this book if you get a chance, I just put a paragraph from there.
“Under orders from Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin, ‘Soldiers armed with cudgels beat up those they could lay their hands on regardless of whether they were demonstrators, or not, breaking into homes by day and night, dragging men and women, young and old, from their beds to beat them. At Gaza’s Shifa Hospital 200 people were treated during the first five days of the new policy, most of them suffering from broken elbows and knees. Three had fractured skulls.’” (PALESTINE AND ISRAEL: THE UPRISING AND BEYOND, David McDowall, University of California Press, 1989, p. 7.)

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

... I truly believe it is possible ... and I will continue to repeat it ... for the dinner ... yes ... with both Malick and bd ... one day when the 3 of us wil be in Dallas I would love to go to dinner all together ... I am sure you will lke each other ... :D

Nice Malick,

I do not know who are you or if you will have a chance to read this but your quote is the perfect example of the biased view of the parties involved, Are you really not supporting anybody ?
Funny Yitzhak Rabin is mentioned, who is maybe more than any other Israeli symbolizes the fight for peace. and please let me doubt the facts of that story.

But... I get tired (too early) of the one sided view against Israel. after living only few years abroad I can actually see, feel and imagine the history of the Jewish people abroad for 2000 years before eventually getting back to THE PROMISED LAND.

As for Jerusalem, my friend, did you know that Jerusalem is never mentioned by name in the Qur'an ?being mentioned 823 times in the Bible, and Zion (which usually means Jerusalem, and sometimes 'the Land of Israel'), appears 161 times.
Of the 823 mentions of Jerusalem by name in the Bible, 669 of them are in the Old Testament, and 154 times in the New Testament.

Sincerely,
Your best Israeli dude

OK ... last night I went to dinner with "bd" and of course we had a huge discussion bout this topic ... not a big deal ... this is not the first one and it won't the last ... we just see things in a different way ... and again my point was not that one country / people / religion is right and the other is wrong ... my point is and was just ... WE, IN THE WESTERN WORLD, HAVE THE LUXURY TO LIVE IN PEACE AND WE NEED TO BELIEVE IN PEACE AND DO WHATEVER I TAKES TO IMPOSE THE PEACE ANYWHERE ... anyways ... his point was pretty much ... "forget it, you are a dreamer" ... today I thought about it again and again ... and tonight I found the answer ... in a Thai restaurant after a delicious fried rice ... I found it in a fortune cookie ... I am reading the message now ... and it says "You have the ability to sense and know higher truth" ... I am not sure if it is true for eveything ... but for sure ... for PEACE it is true ... I am telling you ... PEACE is the answer ... PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE ...
