PUNTA TOMBO, Argentina

... after 26 hours of bumpy road ... 3 different bus ... some good nap on any of them ... loads of EMPANADAS in any gas station we did stop ... coffee ... mate ... I finally got around 7AM ... to PUERTO MADRYN, Argentina ... the main gateway to two wildlife parks ... PUNTA TOMBO and PENINSULA VALDEZ ... as usual I didn't really have a plan ... so I just went top breakfast to the Bus Station ... and there ... the G-D of the backpackers help me again ... I met three new friends ... Andrea, Isabelle and Damien ... and after few seconds we decided to continue our trip together ... we did rent a car ... a french car ... in honor of Isabelle and Damien who are French ...

... you know ... sharing the costs is always a good idea ... and that's the nice part of a SOLO trip ... everyday ... you meet new good friends ... we ended up in the same hostel ... and after a couple of wrong turns ... an infinite line in a supermarket ... we made it to PUERTO TOMBO ... the biggest colony of MAGELLAN PENGUINS ... something like 175,000 animals ... this is the breeding season from them ... and ... because they are birds they make eggs ... not too big ... I would say slightly bigger than a chicken one ... but not too much ... and because they can't fly anymore ... they make holes as nests ...

... which are not very easy to capture in picture ... here Damien ... trying his best ... ehehe ... sometimes the photographer ... is really a dusty work ...

... the place was nice ... the penguins were a lot ... not sure where were all the 175,000 that the park is claiming ... looking for them ... after 1 hour ... a bus dumped lots of tourists ... and at that point ... I wasn't sure anymore who the penguins were ...

... at the end we saw more tourists than penguins .... and most of them were very busy in all the breeding work ... which apparently is equally shared between male and femaile ... anyways ... here some other pictures ...

... I guess the visit would have been much nicer if we ended up there after the breeding period ... when most of the penguins will go to the beach to enjoy the fresh water ...

... not sure why ... mmmm ... probably too many National Geographic documentary ... I thought these penguins were headed south to the icy cold water of the ANTARTICA ... but probably they are smarter than I thought ... once the chicks will be ready ... they will go to BRAZIL ...

... just on time for the CARNEVAL ... lucky them ... :D ... the day was really good ... especially for my new friends ... it is incredible how you can easily connect with other people when you have some spare time like on vacation ... and we ended up the day with a TEA in GAIMAN, Argentina a WELSH city ... where everything is about WALES ... and where, apparently, they don't agree too much with the new wedding of Charles ...
